Migdalia Garcia is an active Emerging Leaders United (ELU) member and serves on the ELU Cabinet. Check out how her involvement with ELU has helped her grow both personally and professionally.
“Through my work with Communities In Schools of Eastern PA (CIS), a United Way Agency Partner, and participation with Emerging Leaders United (ELU) I have connected with several organizations. I first learned about ELU when I was in search of an opportunity to be more involved in my community. After a full year of commitment and monthly activities, it was an honor to take part in the ELU Cabinet. The work has reconnected me with the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, led me to volunteering with LGBT Center of Greater Reading, Family Promise, and also
Safe Berks. ELU has also begun my working connection with Helping Harvest.”
“Along with volunteering with ELU, I got involved with Reading Girls Softball (RGS) to support my husband David as the president of the organization. We wanted our children to be involved in recreational sports and found RGS. Our goal is to strengthen RGS to become a program that encourages girls through sports in the city of Reading. The organization is small and time consuming, but well worth the effort when we witness the comradery, dynamics, and growth of the players.”
“My advice to people looking for community involvement opportunities is just go and look for them, they are out there. Anyone can call an organization and inquire how they can help. I also encourage people to become an ELU member to learn about various exclusive volunteer opportunities and to check out ELU’s Upcoming Events. Being a volunteer in any capacity is rewarding, helps to ground you in your everyday work skills, and allows you to be part of the greater community.”
We thank you Migdalia for the passion she has to be a leader in our community and for her work with ELU and beyond!
