There are so many amazing organizations in our community, and I am proud to be involved with a few of them. I became involved with CASA of Berks County because I thought it was amazing that a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) could be a voice and a constant in the lives of children who feel powerless and voiceless. I also enjoyed the opportunity to serve as a CASA Board Member. I have enjoyed being involved as a Volunteer Advocate for Safe Berks where I promote the work they do for the community because it is beyond essential. I am also proud to be a part of United Way of Berks County’s Emerging Leaders United (ELU) as a Cabinet member, because they foster an environment that connects individuals to incredible community organizations. ELU members can meet the people who are involved in these organizations and learn more about their work to make a difference. I was drawn to these organizations specifically for the vital roles they play in each of the lives they touch.
I like to volunteer in our community because every life is impacted by another life, even when we don’t see it, and everyone needs help at some point in some way shape or form. You can be the person who changes someone’s day, month or entire life. Or maybe you can plant a small seed of kindness. I believe it takes a village to become a strong and beautifully thriving community. When people ask how they can get involved I like to remind them that opportunities are out there. I encourage them to find something they are passionate about. There are nonprofits and agencies that support animals, kids, elderly, homeless, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, veterans, cancer support, and cultural centers. If you feel overwhelmed with options, narrow it down and reach out to the organizations that interest you and ask questions.
