Looking back on 2024, Emerging Leaders United (ELU) has made an incredible impact on Berks County. Over the course of the year, ELU hosted 36 events, including 20 volunteer opportunities, 7 social gatherings, and 9 personal and professional development activities. Members engaged in community clean-ups, provided meals to those in need, and even hosted their first-ever trivia night, all while strengthening their leadership skills through events like Mix and Mingle Like a Boss with Mike Iorio and the “Do You Know United Way” virtual session. These opportunities helped build connections and deepen members’ understanding of the needs in the community.
ELU was proud to partner with local organizations including Mary’s Shelter, North Star Initiative (formerly FREE), Hope Rescue Mission, Shady Hollow Riding Assistance, Opportunity House, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. These collaborations, along with others, helped extend ELU’s reach and deepen its impact across Berks County. In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, members came together to collect over 1,000 personal care items for families affected by domestic violence in the area.
The Signature Holiday Party at the Olivet Club, hosted in partnership with Reading Truck, was a memorable event that celebrated the season, as well as ELU’s new partnership with the Oakbrook Youth Foundation. Additional collaborations with organizations like Reading Rugby, Youth Volunteer Corps, and Greater Reading Young Professionals (GRYP) furthered ELU’s mission to better Berks County.
Beyond contributing time and talent, ELU members also made a financial impact. In 2024, 85 members raised a total of $62,655—an impressive 28% increase from 2023. This generosity supports United Way’s mission to improve lives and strengthen the community.
Looking ahead to 2025, ELU members are eager to continue making a difference. With the passion and commitment of its members, ELU is ready to further its work in the new year and continue its dedication to building a better Berks County for all.
